We recognize that today’s modern family takes on many forms. They include not just the stereotypical nuclear, middle-class household but other arrangements: same-sex couples overcoming biases and perhaps growing their family with children; inter-racial families or families part of a visible minority group contributing to a rich multi-cultural society; prospective mothers deciding to go it alone and start their own families; and a myriad of other possibilities. By learning these perspectives we develop awareness and respect for families from all walks of life.
